Can I extend or change my closing date?

Yes, in most cases Opendoor can accommodate a closing date change. The sooner you reach out, the easier it is to make it happen.

How to request a date change

Contact your Opendoor advisor (Home Sale Advisor) or support as soon as you know you need a different date. Here is what to do:

  1. Call 888-352-7075 or email support@opendoor.com.
  2. Include your property address and your preferred new closing date.
  3. Your advisor will confirm whether the new date works and update your contract.

What to know before you request

  • Extensions are typically available within the 14-60 day closing window.
  • How much flexibility you have depends on how close you are to your current closing date and whether title work or other processes are already underway.
  • Date changes may require a contract amendment, which your advisor will walk you through.
  • There is generally no fee for a standard date change, but confirm with your advisor.

Tip: Request changes as early as possible. Last-minute changes are harder to accommodate and could delay your closing.

Need more time to move out?

If your closing date is set but you need extra time to physically move out of the home, you may be eligible for a late checkout. This lets you stay in the property for a short period after closing. See our article on late checkout for details.

What if I need to cancel?

If you are considering canceling your sale entirely rather than rescheduling, contact your advisor to understand your options and any implications for your contract.
