Can I extend or change my closing date?
Yes, in most cases Opendoor can accommodate a closing date change. The sooner you make the change, the easier it is.
How to request a date change
You can request a closing date change in whichever way is easiest for you:
- Make the change directly on your Opendoor dashboard — this is the fastest option, and you'll see any applicable fee before you confirm.
- Contact your Opendoor advisor or sales support — call 888-352-7075 or email support@opendoor.com.
Have your property address and preferred new closing date ready. A contract amendment may be required, and you'll be walked through it.
What to know before you request
- Closing within the first 30 days of signing your contract is free. Scheduling a closing date beyond 30 days may include an extended closing fee, which you (the seller) are responsible for. If a fee applies, it's shown in your offer breakdown on your dashboard.
- You can move your closing date out whenever you need to, up to Opendoor's maximum closing window (typically 60 days). Moving your date up (earlier) depends on whether title is ready to close.
- Any closing date change requires a contract amendment, which you'll sign electronically on your dashboard.
Tip: Submit your request as early as possible. Last-minute changes are harder to accommodate and may delay closing.
Need more time to move out?
If your closing date is set but you need extra time to physically move out of the home, you may qualify for late checkout, which allows brief post-closing occupancy. See our late checkout article for details.
What if I need to cancel?
If you are considering canceling your sale entirely rather than rescheduling, contact your advisor to understand your options and any implications for your contract.
