I need identity verification help for a self-tour
Before your first self-guided tour, Opendoor requires identity verification. This is a one-time safety measure to protect both you and the homes on our platform. Once verified, you can book future tours without re-verifying.
How identity verification works
-
Open the Opendoor app and start booking a self-tour. If you have not yet verified your identity, the app will prompt you during the booking flow.
-
Take a photo of your government-issued ID. This can be a driver's license, state ID, or passport. Make sure the entire ID is visible and the photo is clear and well-lit.
-
Take a selfie. The app will ask you to take a photo of your face. Make sure your face is fully visible -- no sunglasses, hats covering your forehead, or heavy shadows.
-
Wait for your results. Stripe Identity, our verification partner, matches the photo on your ID to your selfie. This usually takes just a few minutes. You will receive a confirmation in the app when verification is complete.
If verification fails
There are a few common reasons verification does not go through:
- Your ID is expired. Stripe Identity requires a valid, non-expired government-issued ID.
- The photo is blurry or poorly lit. Retake the photo in a well-lit area, holding your phone steady.
- Your face is not fully visible in the selfie. Remove sunglasses and hats, and make sure you are facing the camera directly.
- The name on your ID does not match your Opendoor account. Your account name and ID name must match. Update your account information if needed.
Tip: If verification keeps failing after multiple attempts, contact Opendoor support. The team can review your case and help you get verified.
What information is stored?
Opendoor uses Stripe Identity solely to verify your identity for self-tour access. For details about how your data is handled, you can review Stripe's privacy policy and Opendoor's privacy policy in the app.
