Do I need a signed agent agreement to tour Opendoor homes?
No, you do not need a signed agreement to take a self-guided tour. Opendoor's self-guided tours let you visit homes independently through the app, with no agent involvement and no paperwork required.
Self-guided tours: no agreement needed
When you book a self-guided tour through the Opendoor app, you tour the home on your own schedule. There is no agent present, so no buyer representation agreement is required.
Note: Not all Opendoor properties are available for self-tour. If a property is not available for self-guided touring, it may require an agent to schedule and accompany you on a tour.
To take a self-guided tour, you will need to:
- Download the Opendoor app and create an account.
- Verify your identity with a photo ID and selfie (one-time step powered by Stripe Identity).
- Schedule a tour on the listing page and unlock the door through the app.
That is it — no signatures, no agent coordination.
Agent-accompanied tours: an agreement may be required
If you are touring with a real estate agent, your agent may ask you to sign a buyer representation agreement before showing you homes. This is now standard practice following recent industry changes from the NAR (National Association of Realtors) settlement.
What is a buyer representation agreement?
A buyer representation agreement is a contract between you and your agent that outlines:
- The services your agent will provide — such as showing homes, writing offers, and negotiating on your behalf.
- How your agent is compensated — including the commission structure and who pays it.
- The duration of the agreement — how long the agent will represent you.
This agreement is between you and your agent. Opendoor is not a party to it.
Note: The requirement for a signed buyer representation agreement before touring applies to agent-accompanied tours across the industry, not just Opendoor homes. If your agent asks you to sign one, this is standard practice.
Can I switch between self-guided and agent tours?
Yes. You can tour some homes on your own using self-guided tours and bring your agent to others. There is no requirement to choose one approach for all your tours.
If you start touring on your own and later decide to work with an agent, you are free to do so at any point in the process.
